Doris Jane (Monroe) Smith, 85, of Bethany WV, passed away 8:31 AM on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV.

Doris was born on December 19, 1930 in Ohio County. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Erma (Hercules) Monroe.

Doris was a member of Castlemans Run United Methodist Church. She retired in 1992 after 33 years of service to the former West Liberty State College as the housekeeper supervisor. Many will remember Doris for her love of crafts and her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. Smith, five brothers, Elmer, Raymond, Gene, Charles, and Donald Monroe and a sister, Betty Grove.

Doris is survived by her son, Joseph “Joe” (Shirley) Taggart, two grandchildren, Shelley (Don May) Pavlic and Scott (Jennifer) Taggart, all of West Liberty, WV, a grandson-in-law, York Pavlic, five step grandchildren, four great grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Pavlic and Maya and Cody Taggart, a great great granddaughter, Paisley Jade Simeth, and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 11:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551, with a dear friend, Pastor Bonnie Gilbert, officiating.

Interment will follow at Kadesh Chapel Cemetery, Beech Bottom, WV.
