Obituary for Kenneth Lloyd Fowler

Kenneth Lloyd Fowler, 88, of West Liberty, WV, passed away peacefully at 4:43 PM on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at his residence under the care of his family and Amedisys Hospice.

Kenneth was born on September 6, 1929 in West Liberty, WV. He was the son of the late Mildred (Rogers) Fowler and Frank Sr. and his wife Vera Fowler. Kenneth spent most of his life living and being raised by his grandmother, Lena Rogers.

Kenneth served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War in England and Puerto Rico. He retired after 35 years as a mechanic at Weirton Steel Corporation. Kenneth served his community for 60 years with the West Liberty Volunteer Fire Department with 25 plus years as Fire Chief and President. In addition to the fire department, Kenneth was the first councilman of West Liberty when they incorporated. He was a member of the Northern Panhandle Region Antique Automotive Club of America, and Liberty Lodge 26 AF & AM Masonic Lodge of West Liberty for 50 years in the Scottish Rite as well as being a Shriner. Many will remember Kenneth for his dedication and commitment to the community and his country; but most of all, his unending devotion to his dear family.

In addition to his parents and step mother, Kenneth was preceded in death by his two brothers, Frank “Gene” Fowler Jr. and Roger Fowler and a sister, Betty Fluharty.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Ruth (Sonda) Fowler, two children, Robert “Bob” (Tammy) Fowler, all of West Liberty, WV and Susan “Sue” Bertelli of Cowen, WV, six grandchildren, Mike Fowler, Teresa “Teri” (Tom) Hicks, Stacie Fowler, Moriah (Justin) Stewart, Jordan and Morgan Green, four great grandchildren, a sister, Levenia McIntosh of San Jose, CA, a half-sister, Carol (Bob) Frank of North Olmsted, OH and several nieces and nephews.

Private family viewing and service will be held at Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551 with Pastor Dennis Arnold, officiating, followed by a dignified transfer by West Liberty Volunteer Fire Department and other fire companies to cross ladders and fireman salute in West Liberty proceeding to the private graveside service and interment at Prall Cemetery, West Liberty, WV.
