Betty Loraine (Elson) Ferda, 90 of Wellsburg, WV, passed at 10:48 PM on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV.

Betty was born on January 11, 1932 in Wellsburg, WV. She was the daughter of the late Franklin and Edna (Nixon) Elson.

Betty was a graduate from Wellsburg High School in 1949 and was an academic wonder. One of her proudest moments was being inducted into the Wellsburg High School National Honor Society. She worked as a metallurgical secretary for Weirton Steel and a legal secretary for Attorney Jim Wilkins in Wellsburg. Betty's fondest memories were playing the piano, singing in the choir, dancing with the love of her life, John and raising five wonders – her children! Betty was a remarkable wife, mother and grandma and a dedicated Christian being a member of the Wellsburg United Methodist Church. She always cherished taking her children to church. Betty’s favorite pastimes were watching her children playing sports, fishing and swimming in the creek in addition to sitting on the beach, treasuring her home palace, roller skating and reading her favorite novels. Her love of NCAA College Basketball continued right up through this year's March Madness.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John Ferda, a son, Johnny Alan Ferda, a grandson, Jeffrey Ferda, three brothers, Franklin, Wayne and Eugene Elson and four sisters, Arlene Welch, Myra Fletcher, Loretta Adams and Eleanor Gooch.

Betty is survived by her four loving and devoted children, Brian Ferda of Moundsville, WV, Barbara (John) Lyonett of Weirton, WV, Beverly (Michael) Wilker of St. Mary’s, OH and William (Cindy) Ferda of Wellsburg, WV, a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Ferda of Mt.
