Obituary for Burt Edward Hunt Jr.
Burt Edward Hunt Jr., 90 of Wellsburg, WV, formerly of Avella, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Golden Oaks, Follansbee, WV under the care of the staff with the assistance of Amedisys Hospice.
Burt was born on November 21, 1930 in Power, WV. He was the eldest son of the late Burt E. Hunt Sr. and Ocy (Tredway) Hunt.
Burt was a member of the Independence United Methodist Church. He retired in 1980 from Weirton Steel. After his retirement, Burt was the lawn care and machine mechanic at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV for over 20 years. Many will remember Burt for being a farmer on his family farm in Avella, PA, a true tough horse trader; but most of all, he was a handy man fixing anything and everything to the point of being named “Mr. Fix It”.
In addition to his parents, Burt was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Lois “Katie” Mae (Smith) Hunt on August 6, 2021, two children, Burt Hunt III and Diane Hunt, Stimpson’s twin grandsons and an infant sister, Alice Faye.
Burt is survived by his three children, Patricia Lowe of St. Clairsville, OH, Susan Stimpson and her husband, Larry, Wellsburg and Kitty Elliott and her husband, Tim of Bethany, WV, nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Amanda) and Christopher Lowe, Jill (Bill) Littler, Michael (Lisa) Stimpson, Jennifer (Scott) Taggart, Joshua Elliott, Alisha (Scott) Medlen, Jessica Elliott and Melissa Hunt, 22 great grandchildren, a great great grandson four siblings, Doris Henthorn and her husband, Homer of Wellsburg, WV, Elizabeth Belle of Statesville, NC, Bernard Hunt and his wife, Marie of Wellsburg, WV and Donna Cionni and her husband, Ray of Smithfield, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 3:00-7:00 PM and again on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 10:00 until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551 with Kendra Huffman, officiating.
Interment will follow at Kadesh Chapel Cemetery, Beech Bottom, WV.
