Daniel McGowan, age 85, of Wellsburg, WV passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Dan was born on February 10, 1936 in Wellsburg, WV. He was the son of the late John Park and Cora Elsie (Wolfe) McGowan.
Dan retired from the Brooke County School Board after 58 years of service as the Chief Mechanic, Assistant Transportation Director and substitute bus driver. Dan was a long time and faithful member of the Collier’s Way Church of Christ where he served as Deacon and Treasurer.
In addition to his parents Dan was preceded in death by his siblings Loretta M. McGowan, Clara E. Wallace, Frances Bright, Lyle M. McGowan and his wife Tilda, Janet L. McGowan Miller and Louis M. McGowan and his brothers-in-law, Bud Fox, William "Buck" Bayless and Herbert Bayless.
Dan is survived by his wife of 65 years Marjorie Grace (Bayless) McGowan, five children; Daniel L. McGowan and his wife Mary Ann, Herbert P. McGowan, David W. McGowan, Mark A. McGowan, Tamara J. McGowan Santora and her husband Michael, his siblings; John W. “Buck” McGowan and his wife Darlene, Jane Ann McGowan Fox, Clarence “Les” McGowan and his wife Kathy Ann and his sisters-in-law Tina McGowan and Lucille Bayless. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551, with Joseph F. Cuomo, Pastor of Christian Assembly Church, Follansbee, officiating. All attendees will be required to wear a mask or face covering.
Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV.
