Evelyn “Jean” (Archey) Knapp, age 94, of Wellsburg, WV went onto glory in the arms of her Lord on Monday, May 4, 2020. She went peacefully into the night surrounded by her family.
Jean was born in Sherrard, WV on July 11, 1925 to parents William and Alma (Kinkade) Archey. She married Charles Ray Knapp on November 5, 1944. Together, they raised their 6 children Larry (the late Margie) Knapp and Linda Carroll of Weirton, WV, Linda (Rick) Starck of Placida, Florida, Coleen (Sam) Chevalier of Supply, NC, Carol (Mike) Allman, of Wellsburg, WV, Sharon (Greg) Christopher of Atlanta, GA, and Lori (Whit) Walters of Peters Twp., PA.
Their family grew to include 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Her grandchildren are Jeff (Gina) Montgomery, Tricia (John) Howard, Scott (Tiffany) Montgomery, Jacob (Tandy) Chevalier, Sam (Stacey) Chevalier, Becky (Luis) Cortes, Andrew (Mandy) Johnson, Michelle Allman, Adam (Jayne) Johnson, Stefanie Christopher, Katie (Dave) Silva, Quinn (Kayla Hilderhoff) Walters, Cameron (Lindsy Heuckeroth) Walters, and Will (Ashley) Walters.
Her great-grandchildren are Sammy (Trey Stull) and Lizzie “Ornery” Montgomery; Jonathan, Marissa, and Ben Howard, Carter and Mason Montgomery; Erica (Brenton) Irving; Alyssa (David) Weikle, Haley (Daniel) O’Bryant, Maddie Chevalier; Emily, Abby, and Sammy Chevalier; Elise, Isaiah, Samantha Velez, and Nolan Cortes; Kayleigh Cline and Charlie Jean Onder-Johnson; Gabe Guiterrez; Max Silva; Kailee Blohm; and Beau and Tessa Rae Walters.
Her great-great grandchildren are Bentley Irving, Levi Cortes, and Weston Weikle and one on the way.
Jean has many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents and daughter-in-law, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; 2 sisters – Dorothy Moore and Lila Belt; brother Billy Archey; granddaughter Jill Allman, and great-granddaughter Anna Guiterrez.
Jean was a talented artist, organist, and baker. She loved being responsible for all the lives listed above and proudly made Sunday dinner for anyone who showed up. She did this until 6 weeks before her death. She believed in her Lord, Jesus Christ, and was a member of Franklin United Methodist Church. Jean was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551. Please note that limited access and social distancing will be in place during visitation. If you are unable to attend or not feeling well, please consider sending a card or leaving an online condolence. Private funeral service will be held with her daughter, Reverend Lori Walters, officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV.
Jean's family would like to thank the caring and compassionate team members of Amedisys Hospice who assisted their family and Jean during her final days with comfort, respect and dignity.
