Obituary for Frank Melvin Reitter Jr.

Frank Melvin Reitter Jr., 87 of Wellsburg, WV, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 15, 2021 at UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh, PA under the care of the staff with the assistance of Hospice and his family at his side.

Frank was born on November 21, 1933 in Colliers, WV. He was the son of the late Frank J. Reitter and Sara Margaret (Swearingen) Reitter.

Frank served his country proudly in the United States Army as a Private 1st Class during the Korean War. Upon honorable discharge from the Army, Frank worked for 20 years in construction as a Union Steward, at Workering Man’s Friend Gas Station, Wellsburg, Koppers as a Supervisor and then retired from Stone Container, Wellsburg, WV. He was an active and faithful member of the Wellsburg United Methodist Church, American Legion, Wellsburg, Brooke County AARP and the Brooke County Sportsman Club. Many will remember Frank for his love of children and gardening.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his five sisters, Della Latimer, Betty Biewen, Marjorie Hunter, Dorothy Atwell and Patricia Christian.

Frank is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene (Mercer) Reitter, two children, Deborah R. Sole and her husband, Tim and Frank Douglas Reitter, all of Wellsburg, WV, two grandchildren, Lauren Whitney Sole and Ethan Michael Sole, a sister, Gervious Isinghood of Winterhaven, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, May 17, 2021 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551, with his pastor, Reverend Timothy Kelley, officiating. All attendees will be required to wear a mask or face covering.

Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery Haven of Rest, Colliers, WV, with Military Honors with the WV Army National Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s memory to the Wellsburg United Methodist Church, C/o Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV 26070.
