Obituary for G. Lorraine Hazlett

Lorraine Hazlett, 96 of Wintersville, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at the Home of her son in Winchester, Va.

Born Georgianna Lorraine Householder February 10, 1926 in Weirton, WV. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Georgianna (Cousins)Householder Miller.

After her brothers enlisted in the armed services (WWII), she went to work at Eagle Manufacturing in Wellsburg, WV to help support her mother and younger sister. After the war and married, she worked at McCrory’s 5 & 10 store until it closed and then as manager for Noble Shoes at the Ft. Steuben Mall until retiring. She was member of the Jefferson County Democrats and was their Democrat Woman of the Year for 1993 and 1995. Life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 557, Wintersville, Ohio; chapter founder and member of 8&40 Chapeaux et Querante Femmes (Salon) Chapter 807 of Wintersville, Ohio, that sponsored Nursing scholarships, Girls State and local High School contests/awards and Chapeau of 8&40 Departmental d’ 24 Ohio for 2000/2001 and current member of the Eagles Aire, VFW Auxiliary and Lions. Lorraine was a remarkable sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend and a dedicated Christian being a member of the Wintersville United Methodist Church since 1955.

In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew C. Hazlett Jr., three brothers, Thomas, James and Louis Householder, two sisters, Ann Hogg and Lt. Col. Marjorrie Householder USAF Ret. and a grandson, Richard A. Hazlett Jr.

Lorraine is survived by two loving and devoted sons, MGySgt Richard A.(Wanda) Hazlett USMC Ret. of Havelock, NC, Ray A.(Carolyn)Hazlett of Winchester, VA, two grandsons Charles (Dollie) Hazlett of Kaufman, TX, Alex Hazlett of Winchester, VA, Debbie Hazlett of Atlanta, GA; grand-daughter Rachael Hazlett of Winchester, VA, great grandson Charles A. Hazlett and Wesley Henderson of Kaufman, TX, and two sisters-in-law, Donna Elson of Wellsburg, WV and Grace (Frederick) Householder Linn of Jensen Beach, FL and eight nieces and nephews who will miss her.

A gathering of family and friends for a celebration of Lorraine’s life on Saturday, Mary 21, 2022 at James Funeral Home in Follansbee, WV with visitation with family 10:30 with service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. David Quillen Jr. officiating. Interment will be private at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton, WV.
