Obituary for George Katich

George Katich, 99 of Follansbee, WV, passed away at 9:43 PM on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV.

George was born on April 10, 1922 in Steubenville, OH. He was the son of the late Sava and Sophie (Burda) Katich.

George was a graduate of Steubenville High School. He went on to serve his country proudly during WWII serving in the United States Army Air Corp as a Aircraft Repairman in the Northern African Theater. George was part of the Great Generation. He retired after 40 years of service on the railroad of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. Many will remember George for his enjoyment of playing tennis with his wife, Martha, socializing with friends at the Serbian Club and his time spent at Beatty Park, both in Steubenville, OH; but most of all, being a helping hand to his family from his parents and sisters to his wife, always fixing things and instilling that skill and knowledge in his son.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Martha (Kaschak) Katich, a son, Gary “Beau” Katich and four siblings, John Katich, Mildred Pompa, Mary Balkun and Katherine Farmer.

George is survived by his son, George Katich of Denver, CO and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the James -Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717.

Military Salute will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Highland Hills Memorial Garden, Follansbee, WV where he will be interred next to his wife, Martha, conducted by the United States Army and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
