Obituary for Richard Allen Willey

Richard Allen Willey, 78 of Colliers, WV, passed away at 4:54 AM on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV.

Richard was born on August 24, 1943 in Georgia, Vermont. He was the son of the late Edward Andrew Willey and Lillian Lucinda (Trombley) Willey.

Richard served his country proudly retiring as a Sergeant from the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards and medals including, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star. He went on to retire after 12 years of service as a mail sorter for the United States Postal Service in Tennessee and Vermont. Many will remember Richard for his love of hunting, fishing and gardening; but most of all, tinkering around with everything.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Shawn Willey, six siblings, Edward, John, Jane, Marthan, Sue Carol, Judy.

Richard is survived by his wife of 30 years, Beatrice “Betty” (Miller) Willey of Colliers, WV, 11 children, Terrie Sobotta and her husband, Andy of Middleburg, FL, Lee Silver of Columbia City, IN, Troy Silver and his wife, Brandi of Bowerston, OH, Ronnie McQuillian of Colliers, WV, Tarry Grant of South Royalton, VT, Tammy Willey of Oakfield of Maine, Tracy Vesper and her husband, Bob of Tunbridge, VT, Tina Willey of Bristol, VT, Todd Shatswell of Northfield, NH, Tabitha Richardson and her husband, Jamie of Windsor, VT and Troy Willey and his wife, Kathy of Auburndale, FL, 41 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, a sister, Lucinda Baker and her husband, Louie of Sharon, VT and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 12 Noon until time of Funeral Service at 2:00 PM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717. Military Honors will follow with his comrades of the United States Army.
