Obituary for Robert E "Rob" Thompson
Robert “Rob” E. Thompson, 85 of Wellsburg, WV, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Stonerise, Wellsburg, WV under the care of the staff with the assistance of Amedisys Hospice.
Rob was born on June 1, 1937 in Wellsburg, WV. He was the son of the late Howard and A. Lenore (Roop) Thompson.
Rob was a 1955 graduate of Wellsburg High School. He went on to serve proudly in the United States Army for two years. He retired after 35 plus years from Weirton Steel Corporation. Rob regularly attended the First Presbyterian Church, Wellsburg. Many will remember Rob for his love of sports especially the Dodgers, golfing, playing chess and being a coin collector.
In addition to his parents, Rob was preceded in death by his brother, Howard “Tommy” Thompson and a grandson, Brad Cipoletti.
Rob is survived by his best friend and loved one of 29 years, Patti Antal of Wellsburg, WV, three daughters, Joy Kowalsky and her husband, Brian “Moe” of Follansbee, WV , Julie Harvey and her husband, Dave of Wellsburg, WV and Elaine Cipoletti of Wellsburg, WV, four grandchildren, Allison (Wes) Stoner, Brianna (Drew) Goodman, Matthew Harvey, and Brent Kowalsky and four great grand children, Alexis and Devin Cipoletti, and Ava and Weslee Stoner and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 1:00 PM until time of Memorial Service at 2:00 PM at Franklin Cemetery Chapel, Wellsburg, WV, followed by Military Honors by the WV Army National Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
Interment will follow privately at Franklin Cemetery on the Thompson Family Plot.
