Obituary for Ruth Tye (Ross)
Ruth Ross Tye, age 102, of Bethany, WV, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2021, in her home from natural causes.
Ruth was born March 15, 1919, in Washington, PA. She graduated from Union High School in Wheeling in 1937. On December 19, 1942 she married Bradford C. Tye whom she met at church. The newly-married couple moved to Bethany in 1943 where Ruth lived for 78 years.
She worked at Bethany College as a secretary in the Alumni Relations office for many years, volunteered at Bethany School, and was an active member of Bethany Memorial Church. In addition, Ruth was a member of Bethany Women's Club, Pilathea Class, Christian Women's Fellowship, and Brooke County Senior Citizens.
She was a loyal and avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves fan. Other hobbies included crocheting and playing the recorder and Appalachian dulcimer. She often played at church and local senior citizen events.
Ruth was proceeded in death by her parents Ernest and Lenora Clemens Ross; husband Bradford C. Tye; brother Ernest St. Clair Ross; sister Merle Lancia; and step-mother Bertha Ross of Wheeling, WV.
She is survived by her son Jay E. Tye of Bethany, WV; daughter Jean (Ron) Sarg of Dover DE; two grandchildren M. Paige Taylor (Tom Coleman) of Asheville, NC; Michael P. Taylor (Edie) of Washington D.C.; three great-grandchildren Zane and Gracie Taylor and Silas Coleman; step-sisters Barbara Johnson of Wheeling, WV; and Arlene Kettler of Warwood, WV.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, August 9, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00pm at the Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551, and again on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 2:00 PM until time of Funeral Service at 3:00 PM at the Bethany Memorial Church with Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins. Attendees who are not fully vaccinated must wear a mask or face covering.
Interment will follow at Bethany Community Cemetery, Bethany, WV.
