William “Bill” Davidson Mushet, 83 of Wellsburg, WV, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Weirton Medical Center.
Bill was born on April 12, 1936 in Windsor Heights, WV. He was the son of the late Alexander Black Mushet and Isabella (Davidson) Mushet.
Bill retired after 42 years of service from Stone Container. He was granted a patent from the US Patent Office for the making of paper bags. Bill was a member of the Wellsburg Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon. He was Past Master of the Wellsburg Masonic Lodge #2 and Trustee; Past Eminent Commander of Wheeling Commandery #1 - Knights Templar, Wheeling, WV; Most Excellent Grand High Priest of West Virginia, Royal Arch Masons; Wheeling Union Chapter #1 – Royal Arch Masons; Anointed Holy Order of High Priests; Sovereign Master – Allied Masonic Degrees, Martinsburg Council #359; Worthy Celebrant – Masonic Rosicrucians, Martinsburg, WV; Ohio River Council #63 (Ohio) - Knight Masons of Ireland; WV Council #7 – Knight Masons of the United States of America; Preeminent Governor – Fort Henry York Rite College #61, Wheeling; Past Grand Pursuivant of the Grand Lodge of WV, A.F. & A.M.; Past Worthy Patron Wellsburg Chapter #23, Order of the Eastern Star; Past Grand Representative to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island near the Grand Chapter of WV, Order of Eastern Star. He was the first to serve as Past Master, Past Commander and Past High Priest in the Wellsburg Lodge #2. He was also member of the Wellsburg Elks and Moose. Many will remember Bill for his multi-engine pilot license and was a pilot for Governors and Congressmen. He was a bagpiper with the McDonald Pipe Band, and he enjoyed of hunting, fishing and golfing.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his three siblings, Henry “Harry” Mushet, Elizabeth Ashbrook and an infant sister.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley (Beagle) Mushet; a daughter, Beth Anne (John Jr.) Abram; a granddaughter, Makayla Abram; all of Wellsburg, WV; a sister, Margaret Daily of Short Creek, WV; a niece, Sharon (David) Flamini, who was cherished like a daughter; Holly Johnson (niece) along with numerous other nieces and nephews, friends, Shriners, Masons and bagpipers.
Per Bill’s final request, family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 29, 2020 from 2:00-6:00 PM at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551. Please note that limited access and social distancing will be in place during visitation. If you are unable to attend or not feeling well, please consider sending a card or leaving an online condolence. Private funeral service will be held with Pastor Frank Haas, officiating, along with a bagpiper.
Interment will follow at Kadesh Chapel Cemetery, Beech Bottom, WV with graveside rites to be conducted by Wellsburg Masonic Lodge #2.
A public memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate his life after the health crisis is over.
