Obituary for William James "Pappy" Swartz
William James "Pappy" Swartz Jr., 60 of Weirton, WV, formerly of Grapeville, PA, passed away at 8:53 AM on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV.
Pappy was born on June 14, 1960 in Greensburg, PA. He was the son of Joan Lorraine (Overly) Swartz of North Port, FL and the late William James Swartz Sr.
Pappy was Lutheran by denomination of faith. He retired as a school bus driver with the Norwin School District. Pappy was a volunteer with the Grandview Volunteer Fire Department, Jeannette EMS, Auxiliary Police and the Jaycee's. Many will remember Pappy for playing Santa making dreams of little ones come true and his dedication to the community as a Firefighter, EMS and Police.
In addition to his father, Pappy was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila J. Swartz.
In addition to his mother, Pappy is survived by his daughter, Teresa Bash and her husband, Joshua of Weirton, two grandsons, David and Hunter Bash, a granddaughter, Sierra Bash, four siblings, James Swartz and his wife, Diane of Jeannette, PA, Janey Elias of North Port, FL, Wendi Crusan of Hempfield Twp, PA and Jeff Swartz and his wife, Jennifer of Greensburg, PA, numerous nieces and nephews, a great nephew, special friends, Bob and Laura McGuiggan of Ligonier and his significant other, Dot Beech of Jeannette, PA.
The Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304)737-3551 is honored and privileged to serve the Swartz family with a Celebration of Life at a later date at the Grandview Volunteer Fire Hall. Pappy will be entombed at Twin Valley Memorial Park with his wife.
Pappy served the citizens of Penn Township for years. They appreciate pappy's dedication and his family’s sacrifices during the time Pappy was a firefighter. Pappy has now became a Guardian who will help watch out for all Firefighters as they respond to emergencies.
