Obituary for William Joseph Gower

William Joseph Gower, 71 of Follansbee, WV, passed away at 6:22 AM on Friday, July 1, 2016 at his residence under the care of his family and Amedisys Hospice.

William was born on July 12, 1944 in Elton, MD. He was the son of the late Mary Taggart.

William graduated from Wheeling High School in 1963, then went on to serve in the United States Navy as a Seaman during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, William worked at H & F Trucking. He was a member of the Hopedale American Legion. William was an avid Cash Explosion watcher and was recognized by them as a #1 Fan.

William is survived by his significant other, Shirley Skinner, three step children, Brenden (Bri Mozingo) Skinner, Joy (Paul Sr.) Marino, John-Paul (Elizabeth Vetanze) Skinner, an ex daughter-in-law, Maria (Danny) Strouble, and eight grandchildren, Kayla, Kailee, Kaitlin, Alex, Abbi, Paul Jr., Noah, and Ariston.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, July 3, 2016 from 6:00 until time of Funeral Service and Military Salute at 8:00 PM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304) 527-1717 with Eric Fithyan, Funeral Celebrant, conducting the service with memories from his family, along with the United States Navy.
