Obituary for Magdalene "Mac" Barnes

Magdalene "Mac"  Barnes
Magdalene “Mac” (Rasz) Barnes, 94, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away at 6:45 AM on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling, WV.

She was born on September 6, 1922 in Yorkville, OH. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Bujdos) Rasz.

Mac graduated from Warren Consolidated High School. She served proudly in the United States Navy during WWII as a Wave. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Wellsburg. Many will remember Mac for her love of animals and for starting the Brooke County Animal Welfare League in August of 1976.

In addition to her parents, Mac was preceded in death by her dear husband, Richard Barnes, a brother, John Rasz, and two sisters, Hazel Strauss and Anne Magee.

Mac is survived by her son, Damian Barnes of Wellsburg, WV, a granddaughter Bethany Anne Barnes, and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received Monday, March 13, 2017 from 9:30AM – 10:30 AM at Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Wellsburg, WV, with Father Daniel Pisano, presiding.

Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Navy and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
